When was walthamstow central built
The result is a spacious facility suitable for various activities. The aim is to promote the Walthamstow area as a hub for the creative industries. The architects' first step was to strip back the interior to create a warehouse-like space, with bare walls and floors, and ventilation ducts and electrical fittings exposed across the ceiling.
They restored the unusual facade details, which included a wavy concrete canopy — now painted yellow — and decorative tiles. These provided the design cues for the interior, as well as for the building's new signage. Inside, the main hall is divided up into two areas. A few steps lead up to the second area — a co-working space where desks are kitted out with sockets, lamps and plants. Meeting rooms and other facilities are located in the rooms behind. Gort Scott developed a range of bespoke furniture for the project, helping to keep costs down.
A subway was built in under the busy Selborne Road linking a new bus station with a new Victoria line ticket office. The original plan was to fit out and open the new subway and ticket office in spring but problems with insufficient power capacity to supply two new lifts, together with planning and contractual errors, delayed the opening.
The subway and ticket office were finally opened on 19 November , albeit without the completion of the new lifts completed in late and with unfinished building work.
According to Transport for London , the construction of a footpath to nearby Walthamstow Queen's Road is in planning. The link will significantly shorten the walking time between the two stations. The tube station will be upgraded in the future to provide a third tube station entrance in the Mall.
