Who is sbtrkt

One song made us type the word "discotechnoid". It is music for headphones — full of details, whooshes and all manner of sci-fi FX — and dancefloors, with catchy choruses sung by a variety of hired help. As super-diverse forays into contemporary electronica go, it's this year's We Can't Fly by Aeroplane.

Opener Heatwave features skittering beats and prog-ish synths. Hold On, like many of the tunes, deals with relationship angst, and SBTRKT's voice is appropriately weak and wan, moaning, "How do you mean, you're not coming back? It's clearly a concerted effort on Jerome's part to bridge the synthetic and the organic as well as his own musical and cultural roots, old and new.

Whilst aiding anonymity, and giving greater emphasis to his music, obscuring his identity also helped add a strong spiritual element to his work. They have this meaning that when you wore the mask, you could become that persona and without it you go back to normal. He became an in demand collaborator and his self titled album did much to launch the careers of Jessie Ware and Sampha, the latter being tapped to sing with Kanye West, Frank Ocean and Solange and their respective albums.

And although he tried to remove himself from the process of the promotional machinations of music marketing, ten years his sonic imprint remains distinctive, exceptionally classy and wholly invigorating. Initially, the idea behind the mask was to give freedom to the music. Cos that was never really the point. Suddenly, everyone wanted a piece of the man behind the mask — but Jerome, it seems, had other ideas. But for Jerome, such considerations are a distant second to making the music you want to make.

Where we go next but also where we are now. Anyhow, most of what i could explain in regards to production is meaningless. To me its like a grown up version of one of my early songs, K who had been touring with me through last years shows and festivals on backing vocals. S dates. Mabel i first heard last summer and was struck by her voice, then discovered she was London based; it's always great to find new artists who are here and haven't moved away.
